The total sum of features, aesthetics and complications in the ever-so-popular 2021 Patek Philippe release, the 5236P made it an irresistible package for many. Despite its somewhat fiddly and antiquated muti-dimple adjustment system and a slightly hefty case sizing, the elegantly seductive QP is a true “Patek” in all its honesty. At the Watches and Wonders 2024, Patek Philippe presents the 5236P In-line Perpetual Calendar in a Salmon Dial - an established standard in dial color exclusivity.

A Patented In-Line Display for a Quantième Perpétuel

Residing within a slightly oversized-for-a-dress-watch 41.3 mm platinum case, the 5236P is equipped with its distinctive patented display mode. In its in-line configuration, the 12 o’clock real estate is occupied by a single aperture displaying the day, date and month indications. On its opposing end, we find the running seconds disc housing the moon phase display. It is flanked on either side by a leap year and day/night indication in dedicated apertures. Faceted baton-style applied hour markers and hands complete the dial-side aesthetic.

This in-line aesthetic maintains a clutter free dial with a surprisingly delectable negative space. Now in a salmon or "opaline rose-gilt" hue, the vintage-inspired timepiece exudes infatuation-worthy affinity. Its 950 platinum case marks an aesthetic rebirth of the Patek Phillipe 3448 of the previous era. The case is all-over polished and being crafted of the material that it is, we find a subtle diamond embedded in the dial at its 6 o’clock flank. Its 30 meters of water resistance is insignificant but acceptable in a purely dress watch aesthetic. There is a pairing of interchangeable solid and sapphire crystal case backs for the timepiece and the latter variant gives an arresting visual treat orchestrated by the exquisitely finished movement inside.

Ultra-Thin Self-Winding Caliber 31-260 PS QL

The mechanical heart of the Patek Philippe 5236P In-line Perpetual Calendar announced at the Watches and Wonders 2024 is the ultra-thin self-winding 31-260 PS QL movement. This patent winning caliber offers a world-first in-line architecture for a perpetual calendar. Packing in real watchmaking complexity in a delectable pairing with haute horlogerie finishing, the timepiece is an instant attention-grabber now with a diversely lovable dial hue.

The movement’s triple-patented additional module displays the day, date and month through a large single aperture. Its off-centered rotor crafted in platinum handles the self-winding capability and powers the 503-component caliber to a maximum autonomy of 48 hours. The elaborate finishing on the movement win it the in-house Patek Philippe defined hallmark seal that marks a high echelon of craftsmanship.

Joining the regular collection, the new in-line perpetual calendar Reference 5236P-010 launched at Watches and Wonders 2024 will feature in the catalog alongside its platinum blue dial counterpart. The watch is born on a shiny chocolate brown alligator leather strap.
