It was a celebration of the fictional adventurer who helped elevate the SUB to cult status. Limited to just 94 pieces in honour of Cussler's 94th birthday, the watch featured a slimmer 11.95mm case, 750-metre water resistance, a compass rose engraved on the caseback and a professional dive-watch specification aimed squarely at serious underwater enthusiasts.

The new SUB 300 Ti5 shifts the narrative. Instead of celebrating a film milestone, it returns to the very first SUB model from 1967, paying tribute to DOXA's own history alongside Cussler's legacy. The emphasis is no longer on extreme depth ratings but on lightweight wearability, historical authenticity and technical refinement. Material choice also marks a clear departure. Stainless steel gives way to Grade 5 titanium throughout the watch, dramatically reducing weight while increasing corrosion resistance. The introduction of the dual-plane titanium dial represents one of the most technically interesting design developments seen on a modern DOXA, something entirely absent from last year's model.

Production numbers have changed too. Last year's edition was restricted to just 94 examples, making it one of DOXA's rarest modern releases. The 2026 edition expands to 300 pieces after strong collector demand reportedly encouraged the brand to increase production from its initially planned 95 pieces. While still highly exclusive, it offers considerably better availability, especially since it will also be sold through authorised DOXA retailers for the first time rather than being limited primarily to direct channels.

The SUB 300 Ti5 instead focuses on the classic SUB 300 platform with COSC chronometer certification, 300 metres of water resistance and approximately 38 hours of power reserve more than sufficient for recreational diving while staying faithful to the spirit of the original 1967 watch. At approximately 200 CHF more costly than the previous edition, the SUB 300 Ti5 is a surefire winner.
