Our journey begins in Shizukuishi, home to the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi, where the brand’s mechanical creations are made. From Shizukuishi, our imagined journey moves south to Kakunodate, a town whose historic atmosphere provides an evocative setting for STGK033G. Here, the cherry blossom story becomes softer and more atmospheric. We call this watch Oboro Sakura, inspired by the hazy, almost dreamlike quality of blossoms beneath moonlight.

The watch's dial takes its cue from the misty ambiance that can occur in early spring, when significant temperature changes between day and night diffuse the moonlight into a gentle, blurred glow. Grand Seiko captures this effect through a delicately textured pattern and subtle silver hue. The 30mm 62GS-inspired case once again uses a bezel-free construction to give the dial an expansive appearance, while Zaratsu polishing brings crispness to its multifaceted surfaces.

The pristine dial expresses the magnificent colour and texture of the snowy Hotaka mountains, visible from the Shinshu Watch Studio where the model is produced. Its snowflake pattern creates an almost three-dimensional sense of depth, changing character as light moves across its surface. A blued-steel seconds hand introduces a rich flash of colour, while 44 diamonds set into the bezel add another layer of brilliance. The Beauty of Quiet Craft

We continue to Kanazawa, a city synonymous with Japanese craftsmanship, where detail is rarely used for mere decoration. It is an appropriate stop for STGK009G, a watch whose appeal lies in the subtle interaction of materials, finishing and light. Our name for it is Tsukikage, meaning “Moon Shadow”.

At 27.8mm, the stainless-steel case is compact yet distinctly Grand Seiko, with Zaratsu polishing creating the sharp reflections that have become a signature of the brand. The mother-of-pearl dial provides a naturally changing surface, while diamond-cut hour markers add a discreet brilliance. The hand-blued steel seconds hand is perhaps the most arresting detail, its deep blue colour providing a striking counterpoint to the dial.

Inside is the Calibre 9S27, an automatic movement developed specifically for Grand Seiko's women's watches. We call this watch Kinran, or “Golden Weave”, inspired by the champagne-silver dial and its subtle pattern reminiscent of woven linen. There is a lovely restraint to this watch. Its 27.8mm stainless-steel case is polished using Grand Seiko's exacting Zaratsu technique, while 11 diamonds serve as hour markers. The hand-blued seconds hand brings colour to the otherwise restrained palette, and the razor-edged hour and minute hands are designed to catch even the smallest ray of light.

The Calibre 9S27 automatic movement offers a 50-hour power reserve and a precision rate of +8 to -3 seconds per day. The result is a watch that does not demand attention, but rewards it. STGF389 captures that transition through a pale-blue dial inspired by what Grand Seiko describes as the “wind in the spring sunshine”. We call it Harukaze, or “Spring Breeze”. The watch evokes that moment when warm sunlight and a gentle breeze cause cherry blossoms to shimmer. Its patterned pale-blue dial represents the transition from the harshness of winter to the lighter, more optimistic energy of spring. The 26mm case is a reinterpretation of the 62GS, whose original 1967 design introduced Grand Seiko's first automatic movement. Here, however, the movement is the quartz Calibre 4J51, delivering an accuracy of ±10 seconds per year.

The bezel-free construction gives the dial an expansive appearance despite its compact dimensions, while Zaratsu polishing creates a multifaceted case that catches the light. STGF387 is inspired by hana-ikada, the beautiful phenomenon in which cherry blossom petals, carried from their branches by spring breezes, gather across the surface of a river like a delicate floating raft.

We call this watch Hana-Ikada, retaining the evocative Japanese expression because it perfectly captures the emotion of the dial. There is a wistfulness to the image: in Japan, cherry blossoms are appreciated not only at their peak, but also after they have fallen. The pale-pink patterned dial transforms this fleeting scene into something that can be carried on the wrist.
