Movado has just launched the Heritage Tempo-Matic, a modern version of the brand's very first automatic watch. The original Tempo-Matic, which was launched in the middle of the 20th century, was a significant achievement for Movado since it marked the company's entry into automatic movements and was noted for the wide range of case shapes it offered. The new collection draws on one of the most expressive periods in Movado's history: the TV-shaped cases from the 1970s.

The new collection draws on one of the most expressive periods in Movado's history: the TV-shaped cases from the 1970s.

A design drawn from the archives

The Heritage Tempo-Matic is characterised by its television-shaped case made of stainless steel, the case having dimensions of 37mm x 41mm and a slim profile of 9.45mm. The vertical dial with a brushed finish features prominent indices highlighted with SuperLumiNova and is bordered by an angled inner ring for the 60 seconds and an outer track, giving the dial a vivid and graphic appearance. The watch is secured on a fully integrated H-link bracelet which extends directly from the case. On the case back there is an archival illustration which was originally drawn in the 1910s, thus connecting the watch with the brand's long-standing design history.

Swiss automatic, made for everyday wear

The watch is fitted with none other than the Swiss Sellita SW200 automatic movement which is wound by the natural movement of the wearer's wrist along with a 41-hour power reserve. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal and the watch provides water resistance up to 50 metres, which is sufficient for the everyday use. The choice of an automatic movement is a conscious reference to the original Tempo-Matic, a key point in Movado's watchmaking history which combined mechanical craftsmanship with practical and modern features. The range includes three different models, with their pricing set at two different levels. The model with reference number 3650264 is priced at ₹82,000, while the reference 3650265 is priced at ₹90,000 and lastly the model 3650266 is set at ₹82,000. The range consists of a stainless-steel watch with a blue dial, a gold-tone watch with a brown dial and a stainless-steel watch with a dark red dial.

Elegant Meets Tradition

With its distinctive silhouette, vintage-inspired detailing and Swiss automatic heart, the Heritage Tempo-Matic is aimed at those who appreciate elegant design and traditional watchmaking, and who want a timepiece that honours heritage while fitting a contemporary lifestyle. For design-minded buyers, the archival caseback illustration and the revival of a 1970s case shape offer a tangible link to Movado’s history. For everyday wear, the integrated H-link bracelet, sapphire crystal and 50 metres of water resistance keep the watch practical. Three references also let buyers choose the dial and case finish that best suits their style.
