TAG Heuer has created a Carrera that does something unusually difficult: it translates the idea of a nation into the language of a watch. The new Carrera India Limited Edition, limited to 250 pieces, replaces conventional hour markers with the written forms of 21 Indian dialects across 13 scripts - a quietly radical act of horological storytelling rendered on a tricolor dial.

At first glance, it is a Carrera: disciplined, legible, and rooted in the clean geometry that has defined the collection since Jack Heuer designed the original in 1963 for drivers who needed to read time at speed. Look closer, however, and the watch becomes something else entirely: a miniature map of India’s linguistic plurality, expressed not through flags, slogans, or overt symbolism, but through the most fundamental element of watchmaking: the hour scale.

A Dial That Speaks Many Languages

The centerpiece is the dial. Rather than Arabic numerals, baton indices, or the familiar applied markers of a conventional Carrera, TAG Heuer has arranged hour markers drawn from India’s extraordinary linguistic landscape. The result is a dial that incorporates 21 unique Indian dialects through 13 scripts, each marking an hour while collectively representing the country’s cultural diversity and shared identity. TAG Heuer calls it “A Dial of Voices.”

12 O’clock: Hindi, Marathi, Konkani, Maithili, Nepali, Sanskrit, Bodo, Dogri, Sindhi.

1 o’clock: Manipuri, 2 o’clock: Assamese, Bengali, 3 o’clock & Day-Date: English, 4 o’clock: Odia, 5 o’clock: Telugu, 6 o’clock: Tamil, 7 o’clock: Malayam, 8 o’clock: Kannada, 9 o’clock: Gujarati, 10 o’clock: Urdu, Kashmiri, Sindhi, and 11 o’clock: Punjabi.

The tricolor treatment reinforces the theme without overwhelming it. The palette evokes the Indian flag, but its execution remains within the visual grammar of the Carrera - graphic, structured, and legible. That restraint matters.

Why the Carrera Is the Right Canvas

Introduced in 1963, the Carrera has since become one of TAG Heuer’s most enduring design statements. The Carrera has long been associated with timing, competition, and the pursuit of precision. But it has also always been a watch about legibility - about making information instantly intelligible.

There is also a broader commercial logic. India has become one of the most important luxury-watch markets in the world, and international brands increasingly recognize that Indian consumers respond not merely to heritage imported from Europe, but to narratives that acknowledge India on its own terms. This watch does that because its central design idea belongs to India.

Behind the dial is TAG Heuer’s automatic Caliber TH31-02. It runs at 4 Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour, and drives the hours, minutes and seconds, plus the day-and-date functions. The headline figure is the 80-hour power reserve. In practical terms, that is more than three days of running time when fully wound. The watch is water resistant to 100 meters.

A Limited Edition With a Clear Idea

The edition is restricted to 250 pieces, a number large enough to make the watch a meaningful statement rather than an inaccessible curiosity, yet small enough to preserve a sense of occasion. The pricing places it in an interesting territory. The Carrera India Limited Edition is listed at ₹5,76,000, situating it within the accessible-luxury segment of TAG Heuer’s broader Carrera range.
