Established in Paris in 2018, Trilobe is the brainchild of Gautier Massonneau, a former investment banker with no prior background in watchmaking. Driven by a desire to challenge the seven centuries-old tradition of reading time with conventional hands, Massonneau sought to create a watch that "unfreezes" time, putting the dial itself into motion. After years of development and collaboration with renowned movement designer Jean-François Mojon of Chronode, Trilobe launched its inaugural collection, Les Matinaux. The brand's signature concept relies on a patented display system in which three distinct, counterclockwise-rotating rings carry the scales of time forward, indicated by stationary trefoil-shaped pointers.
The name "Trilobe" refers to an architectural motif featuring three lobes like a three-leaf clover, echoing the brand's three "pillars of time." This blend of French creative design and Swiss mechanical rigour has quickly established the young independent brand as a formidable player in haute horlogerie. Winning critical acclaim, including the prestigious Petite Aiguille award at the 2022 Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), Trilobe continues to push boundaries with subsequent collections like the highly minimalist Nuit Fantastique and the dramatically three-dimensional Une Folle Journée. Today, operating from their integrated workshop in Paris, the Maison champions a philosophy of "time liberated" offering a poetic, eccentric, and architectural approach to watchmaking that invites wearers to reconsider the hurried pace of modern life.
