For its second collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Piaget looks to the American artist’s 1986 Camouflage self-portraits. Reinterpreted through the Maison’s distinctive language of gold and ornamental stone marquetry, the artwork becomes the inspiration for a limited edition of just 86 timepieces, each featuring a dial with remarkable depth, colour and architectural detail.

Piaget’s relationship with artists has long been part of its identity, but few have left as distinctive a mark on the Maison as Andy Warhol. A passionate watch collector, Warhol owned at least seven Piaget timepieces, including the celebrated reference 15102. With its generous 45 mm cushion-shaped case, the watch was designed by Piaget’s Artistic Director at the time, Jean-Claude Gueit, and produced in limited numbers between 1972 and 1977.

The iconic watch has enjoyed several interpretations over the years, including its 2014 revival as the Black Tie Vintage. However, a new chapter began in 2024, when Piaget entered into a licensed collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, gaining the right to use the artist’s name on creations inspired by his work. The collection was subsequently renamed Andy Warhol, with the Maison committing to introducing a new interpretation each year.

Rather than reproducing Warhol’s artworks directly on a dial, Piaget seeks to translate their spirit through its own watchmaking and decorative expertise. As Stéphanie Sivrière, Artistic Director of Piaget, explains, colour provides the strongest connection between the artist and the Maison, particularly through the use of ornamental stones. Following the 2025 Collage edition, which brought together pink opal, green chrysoprase and yellow serpentine, the 2026 Andy Warhol Camouflage takes its inspiration from the artist’s series of self-portraits created in 1986. In these works, Warhol explored the complexities of fame and identity, using camouflage to obscure and transform his own image. The result was a striking interplay of concealment, colour and self-expression.

Reinterpreting An Artistic Icon

For the new edition, Piaget deconstructs Warhol’s original composition and reimagines it through a contemporary horological lens. The dial combines two ornamental stones, sodalite and turquoise, with satin-finished gold and polished rose gold. Together, these contrasting materials give the camouflage motif a sculptural, almost architectural quality.

The interplay is as much about texture as it is about colour. The warm reflections of the two gold finishes meet the vivid blue tones of turquoise and the deeper, oceanic hues of sodalite. The dial is assembled from 27 individual elements, demonstrating Piaget’s expertise in ornamental stone marquetry and its ability to transform precious materials into a cohesive artistic composition.

The use of colour and gold has been central to Piaget since the early 1960s. Over the decades, the Maison has incorporated around 50 different ornamental stones into its creations, ranging from lapis lazuli and opal to jade and coral. This bold approach to colour has evolved into one of its most recognisable signatures.

Creating the Camouflage dial required more than 100 hours of research, design and craftsmanship. Beyond translating Warhol’s instantly recognisable pattern, Piaget brings out its abstract qualities, turning the dial into a miniature composition that feels as much like an artwork as a watch.

Artistry Meets Watchmaking

The dial is framed by Piaget’s signature gadrooned cushion-shaped case, crafted in white gold for this edition. Its sculpted contours provide a striking contrast to the intricate stone composition, while dauphine hands maintain the clarity and elegance of the display. Powering the watch is the self-winding Manufacture calibre 501P1.

More than a tribute to an artist, the Andy Warhol Camouflage demonstrates Piaget’s ability to interpret art through its own distinctive vocabulary of gold, colour and craftsmanship. It brings together two creative worlds that have shared a fascination with bold expression, transforming an iconic image into a highly collectible work of horological art.
